The Dangers of a Single Story

Wise words from Oge Onubogu who testified before the US House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa regarding Nigeria’s redesignation as a Country of Particular Concern.

She talks about the need to have an honest conversation about security cooperation, to get to the root causes of issues, to address multiple overlapping security challenges and the importance of holding perpetrators of crimes accountable for their actions. She also talks about the dangers of a single story.

We appreciate Oge’s wise words and balanced thoughts on what is a complex situation.  The single story narrative that is currently shared in the media these days is unhelpful and dangerous when it comes to planning for solutions.
