On February 3, 2026  hundreds of extremist militants attacked villages in Kwara State, western Nigeria near the Benin border. The attack involved mass shootings, arson, and kidnappings, and left more than 200 individuals dead.  Here we look at the background to the attack as reported in the media, as well as the horrific consequences for hundreds of Fulani herders caught in the cross fire which hardly reached the news at all.
