Fulani in Crisis
We in Whole Truth Nigeria long for peace, harmony and justice for all Nigerians. We advocate for peace and security for all Nigerian citizens regardless of ethnicity and religion but we are particularly concerned about the Fulani people as they are regularly demonised in the media. We know that a small number of people from the Fulani ethnic group have committed atrocities, we do not condone them and we speak against them. But we wonder why attacks perpetrated by Fulani are shared in the news but the attacks that militia groups from other ethnic groups commit hardly get a mention.
In order to help balance the media onslaught against the Fulani we try to document attacks on Fulani to show that they are suffering too. We also try to show that the security data seems to leave out attacks on the Fulani, but makes big news of attacks perpetrated by Fulani in order to create a false and unbalanced narrative. We absolutely do not condone any attacks by Fulani or anyone from any ethnicity, but we want the world to know that the situation is more complex and nuanced than the simplistic narratives that unbalanced story telling and media reports suggest. This is dangerous because a whole people group of 15 million people are experiencing appalling ethnic profiling, persecution, and ethnic cleansing as they are being pushed out of areas where they have lived for generations and generations. International strategies are being developed to handle insecurity in Nigeria, based on false narratives, incomplete statistics and unjust biases.
On this page we share information about ongoing crises affecting large numbers of Fulani people, often involving displacement and ethnic cleansing. For individual attacks on Fulani, please see our list Attacks on Fulani.

Soldiers arrived suddenly and started chasing everyone. They arrested four men and stampeded the cows, which promptly got into the nearby farms. When another man came back to try to get the cows out of the farms, he was arrested too. All five were taken away without explanation or arrest warrant.
The following day the DSS (Department of State Services Domestic Intelligence and Security) made 5 further arrests, once again no reason given for the arrest. Attempts by relatives to ask what they are accused of are met with shrugs and the suggestion that they go to Abuja to find out. There are now 10 people in custody for no known reason, and the community reports that rape and theft have also been committed.
